Funny Lamb Cake Decorating Ideas
Nothing says spring like decorating a traditional Easter lamb cake with fluffy white frosting and green coconut grass.
By now, you should have followed the Easter Lamb Cake recipe to bake and cool your lamb cake and she looks cute but plain like so:
Let's doll her up with a little icing from her cute little head…
…to her sassy little bottom…
…and surround her with a bed of green coconut grass.
Decorating an Easter lamb cake is a lot easier than it seems, even for beginners like me who used store-bought canned icing and flowers to decorate her lamb cake.
I think she turned out adorable.
And if you're feeling extra fancy, I'll show you how to add an edible (and easy!) chocolate candy clay Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it.
Keep reading to see how to frost and decorate a traditional Easter lamb cake.

How to decorate an Easter Lamb Cake Mold:
Follow this Easter Lamb Cake Recipe to bake and cool your Easter lamb cake.
Spread a little icing over the face as smoothly as you can. Ideally, use an offset spatula. I was at my parent's house in Indiana so didn't have my spatula with me so I just used a knife and did the best I could do.
Now I cheated and used a can of store-bought icing. I know. I'm not proud of it but hey, it worked.
Fill an icing bag with a star tip. Make little curly q's and overlap them over each other.
Keep going down the back of the lamb.
I was a little sloppy about it so I used a toothpick to swirl and fill the empty spots.
Add a teeny bit of red food coloring into a teeny bit of icing and mix.
Spread it on the ears, again, using an offset spatula if you can. I used the back of a disposable spoon MacGyver-style.
Now make the curly q's across her head and around her ears.
It'll look like this on the top.
And keep filling in the back of the head.
Repeat the curly q's on the back of the lamb.
Now in hindsight, I should have decorated my lamb on a cake pan first so that it would fit into the fridge. I had put it directly on my platter so I put it in the oven overnight to keep it safe.
But then too much tinkering! I had tried to smooth her facial icing with a little water which wasn't too smart because it knocked neck icing down. Oof.
Good thing it was easily fixed with some more curly q's and you can hardly tell that she was almost a cake fail.
Use a black cake writer to draw a sweet little face.
Place coconut into a Ziploc bag.
Add a few drops of green food coloring, close the bag, and mix the color through.
Spread the coconut grass onto the platter around the lamb.
Add store-bought flowers like I did, or make your own if you're super crafty like that.
She's done! Or maybe not?
Next I'll show you how to add an edible Easter bonnet made out of chocolate candy clay.
